Colors in Printing, virtually indistinguishable from what you see on screen

RGB-like Printing Gamut, beautiful Images and precise Spot Color Reproduction with N-Spektra HD

Reprointelligence, a provider of high‑end industrial color‑control and color‑management solutions, is proudly presenting N‑Spektra HD, a major advance in printing technology.

Print buyers are demanding more precise brand‑color reproduction. Cosmetic packaging must display the finest nuances of skin tones, hair coloration, and makeup shades. Advertisers want printed colors to match what audiences see on‑screen and online. Here’s how we’re answering that need.

A little background… A few months ago we announced N‑Spektra, a machine‑learning‑supported, fully spectral ICC output profiler with n‑color capabilities. While developing the n‑color feature, we had an idea: Why not overprint—or double‑hit—CMYK in a controlled way to achieve the extreme color intensities you see when a sheet runs through an offset press twice? So we tried it and N-Spektra HD was born. Thanks to Kubelka‑Munk and Neugebauer’s formulas, combined with modern AI, we reached a whole new level of color gamut in printing. Proving that the technology works—and exceeds our own expectations—we owe a debt of thanks to our partner Press R3 in Italy.

Press R3 is a printing company equipped with the latest and best printing technologies, relentlessly pursuing the limits of print quality to serve its demanding customers. It operates a 7‑color K&B offset press with UV capability and was open to testing the capabilities of CMYK + xK + xC + xM. We spent a lot of time selecting images that are definitely outside the CMYK or CMYK + OGV gamut to test N‑Spektra HD’s color separations. The result? The technical limits were far from exhausted, and we produced what may be the world’s most saturated, precise, and visually pleasing color prints so far. At Press R3 we printed CMYK + OGV according to F55, but N‑Spektra HD provides vastly more headroom—OGV cannot achieve that.

Additional successful tests were performed at Hofmann Druck in Emmendingen, Germany, where a CMYK + Y process compensated for the loss of saturation that typically occurs with eco‑offset inks.

We are absolutely convinced that N‑Spektra HD is the solution for lifting print media visually to the level of RGB‑based screen media. Print buyers no longer need to suffer the weakness and discrepancies between their intent and the final print. Print service providers can skip the complexity and SCTV calibration/color‑management of OGV by sticking with the familiar reliability of CMYK and familiar tools—only on a whole new level.

N‑Spektra HD lets the printer work within normal parameters without increasing ink density to unstable levels and without requiring expensive EXG tools, yet it achieves a significantly larger color gamut than CMYK or CMYK+OGV and a visually pleasing print result.
